A study of Toyohara Kunichika’s early works
Toyohara Kunichika’s works are not recognized as valuable as works of art, but he was an extremely popular ukiyo-e actor painter in the late Edo period. The purpose of this research is to uncover his popularity. Sugawara Mayumi has published many papers regarding the ukiyo-e artist Kunichika Toyohara. I confirmed some of the issues that had remained vague, evaluated Kunichika’s works from a more developed perspective, and clarified its characteristics.
